Windscribe now sells VPN access that needs no account, no email and no card. You pay $9 for a month or $69 for a year in USDC, a cryptocurrency pegged to the dollar, on the Base network. Windscribe announced the option in a blog post on 4 November 2026. It is aimed at AI agents, but the post says “the same checkout works for people”.

We read the post and Windscribe’s technical documentation. The prices match the Windscribe plans we checked on 5 November. The terms around them are different, and we explain how below.

What happened

Windscribe calls the product a VPN API. Instead of signing up in an app, you send a few web requests. First you create a WireGuard key pair on your own device. WireGuard is the connection method the service uses, and our WireGuard explainer covers how it works. The public half of the key stands in for an account. The private half never leaves your device.

Windscribe quotes a price, and your software pays it through x402, an open payment standard. You then receive the connection details. Any WireGuard app can use them. You can buy 1 to 7 months at $9 each, or 12 months for $69. Terms of 8 to 11 months are not offered.

“All Windscribe gets from you is a WireGuard public key and a USDC payment,” the post says. It adds that “Windscribe doesn’t keep your wallet address either.” Every new key starts with Windscribe’s malware blocking switched on.

Why it matters

Few VPNs let you pay without leaving a name or an email. Mullvad and IVPN issue accounts without an email address and take cash or Monero. Windscribe’s API goes a step further, because there is no account record at all.

It is not fully anonymous, and Windscribe says so. The payment is a public transaction on Base, so anyone can see which wallet paid. Windscribe keeps the transaction ID of each payment, so its own records can link your key to that wallet. Its documentation says to “pay from a wallet you are comfortable linking to this purchase”. If your USDC came from an exchange that holds your ID, the trail starts there.

The terms also differ from Windscribe’s regular plans:

  • Time is prepaid and never renews. You buy more against the same key, up to a year ahead.
  • Purchases “aren’t refundable”, the post says. The 7-day refund on the regular plans does not apply.
  • There is no account to recover. If you lose the private key, you lose the access.

What to do

If you want a VPN that holds no customer record about you, this is one of the few options. You need USDC on Base in a wallet you control, a tool that speaks x402 and a WireGuard app. Windscribe refuses keys that were used with a Windscribe account, so make a fresh key pair. Then back up the private key.

If that sounds like too much work, the regular apps are simpler, and they take cryptocurrency too. Our privacy picks compare the providers that accept anonymous payment. Our guide to no-logs policies explains what a provider can still see once you are connected.

What we changed

We added a short note on the VPN API to the payment section of our privacy picks, with a link to this report. Windscribe’s prices and refund terms in our tables stay as they are, because the regular plans did not change. The API’s payment option will be added to Windscribe’s record in our data in the next data refresh.

Frequently asked questions

Can I buy Windscribe without an account?
Yes, through its VPN API. You send a WireGuard public key and pay in USDC on the Base network. Windscribe says it gets no name, email or card, and that it does not keep your wallet address. The regular apps still use an account.
Can I get a refund on a Windscribe VPN API purchase?
No. Windscribe says purchases cannot be refunded once the payment settles. The 7-day refund on its regular plans does not apply here. Revoking a key also gives up the time left on it.
