Is my VPN working?

Connect your VPN, then load this page. It shows the address websites see and runs the leak tests a browser can run. Compare the location with the server you chose in the app.

DNS leak testing needs its own DNS server, which we have not set up yet.

How to read the result

  1. Location: it should match the VPN server you picked. The country must match, but the city may differ. If it shows your real city or your internet provider, the VPN is not routing your traffic.
  2. WebRTC: "No leak" means the browser shows no address outside the VPN. A different public address means a leak. Fix it with the steps on the WebRTC test page.
  3. IPv6: "No leak" means IPv6 is blocked or sent through the VPN. A reachable IPv6 path with a different address means traffic can go around the VPN. See the IPv6 test page.

Common reasons a VPN appears not to work

  • The app is connected but a split-tunneling rule excludes the browser. Check the app's split-tunneling list.
  • A kill switch is off and the tunnel dropped. Enable the kill switch so traffic stops instead of leaking when the connection fails.
  • Location databases disagree. What matters is that the country matches. A city 300 km away is normal.
  • Browser extension or app. A browser extension protects only that browser. Other apps on the device still use your normal connection.

If it still fails

Reinstall the app, try another protocol (WireGuard or OpenVPN), test a different server, and contact the provider's support. If the provider cannot fix it within the refund window, switch: our ranked reviews and comparison table show which providers document leak protection and an audited kill switch.

Privacy of this tool

This page runs the three checks above and sends the same requests they do:

  • one to our server, which reports the address and location it sees
  • one WebRTC exchange with a public STUN server
  • one request to a host that only answers over IPv6, to see if that path is open

We store none of the results and set no cookies. Your browser works out the result from those answers, and it disappears when you close the page.
