How to Cancel NordVPN and Get a Refund (Step by Step, 2026)

How to cancel NordVPN: turn off auto-renewal in your Nord Account, ask for the 30-day refund by live chat or email, and handle app-store billing.

Canceling NordVPN means two separate actions, and people often confuse them. Turning off auto-renewal stops future charges. Requesting a refund gets your money back within the 30-day guarantee. You may want one, the other or both.

This guide covers each, based on NordVPN’s own help-center articles. It ends with what to do if you are leaving for another provider.

Before you start: renewal or refund?

If you bought NordVPN directly from nordvpn.com less than 30 days ago and want your money back, skip to the refund section. A refund closes the subscription.

If you are past 30 days, turn off auto-renewal and let it lapse. Do the same if you want to keep using the service until the end of the term you paid for.

If you bought through the Apple App Store or Google Play, NordVPN cannot touch the subscription at all. The app-store section below applies.

Auto-renewal matters because NordVPN’s long plans renew at full price. On 31 October 2026, the 27-month Basic plan cost $94.23 and renewed at $139.08 a year. Complete renewed at $219.48, and Prime at $296.28. Turning renewal off stops those charges.

Step by step: turn off auto-renewal in your Nord Account

  1. Go to my.nordaccount.com and log in with the email and password you used to buy NordVPN.
  2. Open the Billing tab in the left-hand menu.
  3. Find your NordVPN subscription and click Cancel next to auto-renewal.
  4. Confirm. The page now shows auto-renewal as off. NordVPN sends a confirmation email for subscriptions bought directly from it.

The same Billing page handles NordPass, NordLocker, Dedicated IP and bundle subscriptions. If you change your mind, the button becomes Enable auto-renewal.

Expected result

Your Nord Account shows auto-renewal as off, and you receive a confirmation email. Your subscription keeps working until the end of the period you paid for. This step does not refund anything. The apps keep connecting normally until the expiry date shown in the account.

Step by step: request a refund within 30 days

  1. Check the purchase date in the Billing tab. The money-back guarantee covers the first 30 days of a first purchase made directly from NordVPN.
  2. Open live chat on nordvpn.com or email support, and ask for a refund under the money-back guarantee. Live chat is open 24/7. You do not have to give a reason, but support may ask.
  3. Keep the ticket number or chat transcript. Refunds go back to the original payment method. Card and PayPal refunds usually appear within a few business days, depending on your bank.
  4. Wait for the refund. Once it is issued, the subscription is canceled and the apps stop connecting.

Renewal payments, repeat purchases and the Dedicated IP add-on are outside the guarantee. NordVPN’s policy also says it will not refund a purchase that already received a refund in the past.

App Store and Google Play subscriptions

If you subscribed inside the iOS app, cancel in Settings on your iPhone or iPad. Tap your name, then Subscriptions. Select NordVPN and tap Cancel subscription. You request refunds for App Store purchases from Apple through reportaproblem.apple.com. Apple decides, not NordVPN.

If you subscribed through Google Play, open the Play Store and go to Payments and subscriptions. Select NordVPN and cancel. Google handles refund requests under its own policy.

Troubleshooting

  • No Cancel button in Billing. You are probably logged into a different Nord Account from the one that holds the subscription. Or the subscription was bought through an app store. Check the email on the receipt.
  • Support asks you to stay or offers a discount. You can accept or decline. The policy covers a refund request within 30 days of a direct first purchase either way.
  • Refund refused. Confirm the purchase was direct, your first, and within 30 days. If it was and support still refuses, ask for the refusal in writing. As a last resort, escalate through your card issuer’s dispute process.
  • Charged after turning auto-renewal off. Compare the charge date with the confirmation email. If the charge is later than the confirmation, contact support with both. If the charge is earlier, the renewal went through before you canceled. It is not refundable under the 30-day rule.
  • Still connected after canceling. That is expected until the paid period ends. To stop using the service now, log out of the apps and uninstall them.

If you are switching

Most people cancel because of the renewal price, a missing feature or a streaming service that stopped working. Our NordVPN review lists the gaps. These comparisons show what you gain and lose by moving:

Every one of them offers a 30-day refund or longer. So you can test one before your NordVPN term runs out.

Frequently asked questions

How long is NordVPN's money-back guarantee?
30 days from the first purchase made directly from NordVPN. Renewals and repeat purchases are not covered. Apple refunds subscriptions bought through the Apple App Store, under its own rules.
Does turning off auto-renewal cancel my NordVPN access?
No. The service keeps running until the end of the period you paid for. Only future charges stop. You can turn auto-renewal back on from the same Billing page.
How do I get a NordVPN refund?
Contact NordVPN through live chat or email within 30 days of your first purchase. Ask for a refund under the money-back guarantee. Turning off auto-renewal alone does not trigger a refund.
Can I cancel NordVPN if I paid with cryptocurrency or a prepaid card?
Yes. You can turn off auto-renewal in the same way. For refunds, NordVPN's policy applies the 30-day guarantee to direct purchases. Ask support how a refund is issued for your payment method before the window closes.
