PrivadoVPN is the cheapest paid VPN we track on first-term price. On 31 October 2026 it cost $1.11 a month for 27 months. It also runs one of the few free plans with a meaningful allowance: 10 GB every 30 days.

It is also the provider in our data set that asks you to take the most on trust. It has no independent audit of any kind, no transparency report, no warrant canary and no live chat. Its operating company moved from Switzerland to Iceland on 1 May 2026, but its own pricing and free-VPN pages still say otherwise. This review sets out what is verified, what is claimed and what is simply unknown, with the date and source for every number. Its score is shown above.

Privacy and logging

The company behind PrivadoVPN changed this year. Its terms of service and privacy policy were both last updated on 1 May 2026. They name Privado Networks ehf as the service provider and data controller. A data controller is the company legally responsible for your personal data. Privado Networks ehf is a private limited company under Icelandic law, with its registered office at Suðurhraun 10, Garðabær. The terms say they are governed by the laws of Iceland.

Section 1.5 of the terms covers subscriptions bought before that date. Privado Networks AG of Zug, Switzerland, provided those, and Privado Networks ehf has taken over its obligations. The Swiss company now acts only as a payment processor, together with Privado Networks LLC in Wilmington, Delaware.

Yet the pricing page still says “As a Switzerland-based company, PrivadoVPN is able to take advantage of the best privacy laws in the world”. The free-VPN page lists “Swiss Privacy Laws” as a feature. On 31 October 2026 those statements were six months out of date. Iceland, like Switzerland, is outside the 5, 9 and 14 Eyes alliances, which are groups of countries that share intelligence. So the practical privacy difference may be small. But a provider whose marketing describes its own legal entity wrongly has made a poor start on transparency.

The privacy policy itself is clearly written. PrivadoVPN says it does not log browsing history, traffic destinations, data content, VPN session IP addresses or DNS queries. This applies to free and paid users alike, and the terms state that the no-logging commitments apply equally to both.

It does keep account-level counters of data volume, to enforce the 10 GB free limit and for capacity planning. It deletes account data within 30 days of a deletion request. It keeps payment records for seven years after the fiscal year. That is a long retention period for a privacy product, so keep it in mind if you pay by card.

No outside evidence backs the policy. As of 31 October 2026, PrivadoVPN has commissioned no independent no-logs audit, no app audit and no infrastructure audit. It publishes no transparency report, which would show how many requests for user data it received. It also runs no warrant canary, a regularly updated statement that a provider has not received a secret government order.

PrivadoVPN has no incidents on record either. But no seizure or court order has ever tested it. Mullvad faced that test in April 2023, and Private Internet Access faced it in court cases in 2016 and 2018.

Every other provider we track with a free tier has done more:

  • hide.me publishes a 2024 Securitum no-logs report.
  • Windscribe has app and infrastructure audits, plus a canary and a transparency report.
  • Proton VPN is audited by Securitum every year.

Our privacy score gives most of its points to a no-logs audit under two years old and to RAM-only servers. RAM-only servers run from memory, so a restart wipes them. PrivadoVPN has neither. It does not say who owns its servers or whether they run in RAM. It also offers no anonymous payment method. You can pay by card, PayPal, iDEAL, SEPA or through the app stores, but not with cryptocurrency.

None of this means PrivadoVPN logs. It means that if you buy it, you are relying on a policy document alone.

Security features

The protocol set is standard: WireGuard, OpenVPN and IKEv2. A protocol is the method a VPN uses to build its encrypted tunnel. The feature pages cite “AES-256” but give no detail on cipher modes or handshakes. Better-documented providers publish those details.

A kill switch blocks your internet if the VPN connection drops. PrivadoVPN’s kill switch exists in three apps:

  • Windows, where it can be system-wide or per-app
  • Android, alongside Always-on VPN
  • iOS, since version 3.9.0 on 2 May 2025.

The kill-switch marketing page says it is in “any of our easy-to-use apps”. But the help center confirms only those three platforms. So if you use macOS, test it with our VPN check tool before relying on it.

Split tunneling lets you choose which apps use the VPN and which do not. It is confirmed only for Fire TV and Android. On Fire TV it works in exclude mode, according to the 2.7.0 and 2.8.0 changelogs. On Android it appears in the 3.9.0 changelog. It is not confirmed for Windows, macOS or iOS. However, iOS 3.9.0 added SmartRoute, which lets selected websites and IP addresses bypass the VPN.

SmartRoute is also PrivadoVPN’s multi-hop feature. Multi-hop sends your traffic through two VPN servers instead of one. A help center article from 20 May 2026 describes SmartRoute as a two-hop route. The entry server is chosen automatically, and you choose the exit server.

Control Tower comes with Premium. It filters ads, trackers and malware and adds parental controls. It and the Smart DNS run on DNS servers that Privado operates. IP leak protection is claimed for DNS, IPv4 and IPv6. But no page states whether IPv6 traffic is tunneled or blocked. So run the IPv6 leak test on a dual-stack connection, one that uses both IPv4 and IPv6. A SOCKS5 proxy is included with Premium.

The list of missing features is longer than usual. No obfuscation feature of any kind is mentioned on an official page. Obfuscation disguises VPN traffic so that networks which block VPNs find it harder to spot. So PrivadoVPN makes no claim to work on restrictive networks, and we would not pick it for the China use case. There is no port forwarding, no dedicated IP, no post-quantum key exchange and, as noted above, no technical audit.

The network is small: 233 servers in 66 cities and 49 countries on 31 October 2026. We counted them from check.privadovpn.com, the endpoint the official site uses to fill in its own figures. Free accounts can use 41 servers in 10 countries. The about page says the infrastructure is “peered with major regional ISPs”. It says nothing about ownership, RAM-only operation or virtual locations. For scale, NordVPN lists 7,229 servers in 150 countries and Surfshark 4,500 in 100.

Apps and usability

PrivadoVPN has apps for Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, Android TV, Fire TV and Apple TV. It has extensions for Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Brave. There is no Linux app. Premium users get manual OpenVPN, WireGuard and IKEv2 setup guides, and free accounts cannot use Linux at all.

Routers are covered by manual OpenVPN guides for Asus, AsusWRT-Merlin, DD-WRT and pfSense. Control Tower Smart DNS has its own setup guides for devices without an app. That is a plus now that Surfshark has discontinued Smart DNS. A Premium account allows 10 simultaneous connections. The help center says a free account allows one. But the free-VPN page says you can use the free apps “on unlimited devices”. We read that as installs, not connections at the same time. No app is described as open source.

PrivadoVPN’s official streaming page lists eleven services: Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, BBC, Amazon Prime Video, MAX, Peacock, Paramount+, Crunchyroll, DAZN and ESPN+. The BBC entry covers iPlayer and Sounds. The free plan includes streaming support, which Proton VPN’s free tier does not.

We have not tested any of these. So every entry in the streaming matrix above is the provider’s documented claim. Our Netflix and streaming pages explain how we will test and what blocks a VPN. We have not yet published usability testing or screenshots either. See the how we test page for the lab plan.

Support

There is no live chat. PrivadoVPN’s support page promises a reply “any time, day or night, 365 days a year”. You reach support through the help-center contact form and support@privadovpn.com. A HappyFox chat widget exists on the support site. But it is hidden by default and has no stated hours, so our record lists live chat as unavailable. We have not measured ticket response times. At $1.11 a month that trade-off may be acceptable. But if you expect to need hands-on help, NordVPN, Surfshark and hide.me all run 24/7 chat.

Plans, the free tier and the renewal price you are not told

On 31 October 2026 the pricing page showed three plans:

  • 1 month at $10.99, labeled “No Savings”.
  • 12 months plus 3 free months at $1.33 a month, labeled “Save 88%”.
  • 24 months plus 3 free months at $1.11 a month, labeled “Save 90%”. The page flags it as the plan 82 percent of users pick.

The page shows only the per-month price and never displays the amount you will be charged. The checkout at signup.privadovpn.com is a JavaScript application our fetcher could not read. So the totals in our record are derived by multiplying the displayed monthly price by the term. That gives $19.95 for 15 months and $29.97 for 27 months. They are our arithmetic, not figures PrivadoVPN printed, and you must confirm them at checkout. An antivirus add-on is $1.99 a month on the two longer plans. Prices are offered in USD, EUR, GBP and CHF.

If you are looking for a PrivadoVPN coupon, the pricing page’s own buttons carry codes in their links. On the day we loaded it, the codes were bf26-20-f-12mo, bf26-30-f-24mo and bf26-1099-f-1mo. They are applied automatically. There is no code to type and no promotion name on the page. We do not know what price appears without those links.

The renewal price is not stated anywhere. Section 4.2 of the terms says a subscription renews “for the same billing period at the then-current price”. Section 4.1 promises that a price increase will not apply during a paid period. You can cancel auto-renewal in your account settings. So a 27-month plan renews for another 27 months at whatever PrivadoVPN charges then. That could be $1.11 a month or the full rate, and nobody can tell you in advance.

NordVPN’s renewal of $139.08 a year on its 27-month Basic plan is steep, but at least it is clearly stated. PrivadoVPN’s position is weaker than that. It is much weaker than hide.me’s same-price renewal or CyberGhost’s renewal at the same $61.32. Our PrivadoVPN pricing page records every reading, so you can see what the then-current price turns out to be.

See PrivadoVPN plans

You need to read two pages to understand the money-back guarantee. The feature page says you can have “a full refund within 30 days” for any reason. Section 5.2 of the terms narrows that a lot. The guarantee applies only if:

  • you subscribe to an annual plan
  • you ask within 30 calendar days of the initial purchase
  • you have not used it before, because it applies once per user
  • you paid by credit card, debit card, direct debit or PayPal.

It excludes monthly plans, renewals, accounts terminated for breaching the terms, and purchases through the Apple App Store or Google Play. The pricing page shows the guarantee badge on the 12- and 24-month cards and not on the monthly card, which matches the terms. The terms say “annual plan” and do not spell out whether the 24-month plan counts. The badge suggests it does. But if the refund matters to you, get that in writing from support before you pay for 27 months.

The free tier gives 10 GB of data every 30 days on one connection. It has servers in 10 countries, which meant 13 cities and 41 servers on 31 October 2026. Free “emergency” servers are available after the cap is used, and streaming support is included. There is no SOCKS5 proxy and no Linux support. You need a verified email address. That is the main difference from hide.me’s free plan, which needs no account at all and has no cap, but offers only 8 locations. Windscribe’s free tier is the closest match, at 10 GB a month with a confirmed email. We have not tested the speed of any free server, but the lab will.

Who it is for and who should skip it

PrivadoVPN is for two kinds of buyer:

  • someone who wants the lowest first-term price on the market and has the discipline to check the renewal price before it recurs
  • someone who wants a free VPN with a real allowance and claimed streaming support, on a phone or a Fire TV, with no intention of paying.

For both, the 11 streaming claims and the Smart DNS are the draw, and the price is the main argument.

Skip it if you need a no-logs policy backed by evidence rather than a document. Proton VPN, Mullvad, IVPN and hide.me all publish audits. Also skip it if you:

  • use Linux
  • need split tunneling on a desktop
  • need port forwarding for torrenting
  • need obfuscation for a restrictive network
  • want to pay in cryptocurrency.

Skip the monthly plan too. At $10.99 with no right to a refund, it is poor value next to Proton VPN’s $9.99 with a 30-day guarantee. If the Switzerland-versus-Iceland question bothers you, write to support before you buy and ask which entity you are contracting with. On 31 October 2026 the pages did not agree. Our privacy picks list the providers that clear the evidence bar.

Alternatives

Proton VPN is the free tier with evidence behind it. It has no data cap, one device, servers in 10 countries and no streaming, plus open-source apps and annual Securitum audits. The paid Plus plan is $3.49 a month for 24 months, or $83.76, and renews at $83.88 a year. It has 21,882 servers in 149 countries and twelve streaming claims. See our Proton VPN review.

hide.me has a free plan with no data cap and no sign-up, a published 2024 no-logs audit and port forwarding. Its 30-month plan costs $2.33 a month, or $69.99, and renews at the same price. See our hide.me review.

Windscribe matches the 10 GB free allowance and adds port forwarding, a warrant canary and a transparency report. It costs $5.75 a month on the yearly plan, or $69, and renews at the same price. But it refunds only within 7 days. See our Windscribe review.

Surfshark is the cheap paid alternative with evidence. Its Black Friday deal costs $2.49 a month for 27 months, or $67.23. It offers unlimited devices, two Deloitte no-logs reports and 24/7 chat. But it does not state its renewal price either. See our Surfshark review. The comparison hub shows every provider field by field, and the reviews hub lists all twelve services we track.

How we verified this review

Every price, plan term, feature and policy statement on this page was read from PrivadoVPN’s official pages on 31 October 2026. We used:

  • the pricing page
  • the terms of service and privacy policy, both dated 1 May 2026
  • the money-back guarantee page
  • the free-VPN page
  • the features and support pages
  • the help center
  • the server list at check.privadovpn.com.

We could not read the checkout, so plan totals are derived from the displayed monthly prices and marked as such. We found no audit, transparency report or warrant canary on any official page. We say so rather than assume one exists. We have not run speed or streaming tests. That is why speed is left out of the score and streaming entries are labeled as claims. The data record behind this page is public, and our methodology explains the scoring.

Frequently asked questions

Is PrivadoVPN free?
Yes, there is a free plan with 10 GB of data every 30 days on one connection. It has servers in 10 countries, which meant 41 servers in 13 cities on 31 October 2026. Free emergency servers are available once the allowance is used, and streaming support is claimed. It requires a verified email address and excludes Linux and the SOCKS5 proxy. The paid plan starts at $1.11 a month for 27 months.
Is PrivadoVPN safe, and does it keep logs?
PrivadoVPN's privacy policy, updated 1 May 2026, says it does not log browsing history, traffic destinations, session IP addresses or DNS queries. This applies to free and paid users alike. No independent auditor has checked that claim, and there is no transparency report and no warrant canary. So unlike Proton VPN or hide.me, you have to take the policy on trust.
Is PrivadoVPN based in Switzerland?
Not any more. Since 1 May 2026 the service provider and data controller is Privado Networks ehf, an Icelandic company in Garðabær. Icelandic law governs the terms. Privado Networks AG in Zug served subscribers before that date and now acts only as a payment processor. Even so, PrivadoVPN's marketing pages still call the company Swiss.
How much does PrivadoVPN cost?
On 31 October 2026 the pricing page showed $10.99 for one month. A 12-month plan with 3 free months, 15 months in all, cost $1.33 a month. A 24-month plan with 3 free months, 27 months in all, cost $1.11 a month. The billed totals are not displayed, so $19.95 and $29.97 are our arithmetic from the monthly price. The renewal price is not stated either.
Is there a PrivadoVPN coupon code?
On 31 October 2026 the buttons on PrivadoVPN's own pricing page carried bf26 discount codes in their links. They are applied automatically at checkout, so there is nothing to type. We have not seen a separate code on any official page, and we do not publish codes we cannot verify. Confirm the total at checkout before paying.
Does PrivadoVPN work with Netflix?
PrivadoVPN's streaming page lists Netflix among 11 services it says it supports. The others are Hulu, Disney+, BBC iPlayer, Prime Video, MAX, Peacock, Paramount+, Crunchyroll, DAZN and ESPN+. The free plan includes streaming support. We have not tested any of them, so these are the provider's documented claims.
