Black Friday VPN pricing started early this year. On 31 October 2026, we re-read the official pricing pages of five providers: NordVPN, Private Internet Access, CyberGhost, ExpressVPN and Proton VPN. Three of the five carried a seasonal label. NordVPN’s Black Friday page says its sale “starts on October 21, 2026, and runs until December 9, 2026”. None of the other four publishes a campaign window.
What happened
The NordVPN pricing page carries the banner “Get 78% off + 3 extra months”. The 78 percent belongs to the Complete tier. The 27-month Basic plan is labeled “Save 69%”. It costs $3.49 a month, or $94.23 up front, and renews at $139.08 a year. Complete is labeled “Save 78%” and costs $3.99 a month, or $107.73 up front, then $219.48 a year. The page says the percentages compare the introductory price with the renewal price.
Private Internet Access calls its campaign a “Halloween Price Slash”. It offers “83% Off” on 39 months at $2.03 a month, which “Autorenews at $79 every 3 years”.
CyberGhost uses the same figure: “Get 83% off with our Halloween deal”. The deal is its “2 Years + 2 Months” plan at $2.19 a month. The page says it is “Billed $56.94 for first 2 years, then autorenews at $56.94 annually”. The plan has a 45-day refund window. CyberGhost’s page says the 83 percent is based on its $12.99 monthly price.
ExpressVPN’s order page shows its standing “2 Years + 4 Months” offer with no seasonal label. Basic costs $2.99 a month, or $83.72 for the first 28 months, then $99.95 a year.
Proton VPN showed its usual 65 percent introductory price, with no Black Friday wording. VPN Plus costs $3.49 a month. That is $83.76 for 24 months, then $83.88 a year.
Our data record lists Surfshark’s Starter and One tiers at $2.49 a month under a “Black Friday deal” label. That is $67.23 for 27 months. No renewal price is stated.
Why it matters
The percentages are not comparable. CyberGhost’s 83 percent is measured against its monthly price. NordVPN’s 69 percent is measured against its own renewal price. That NordVPN plan still renews at $139.08 a year. That is $11.59 a month, or 3.3 times the introductory rate.
CyberGhost’s plan renews at the price you paid, about $4.75 a month. PIA’s plan renews at $79 for another three years, about $2.19 a month. ExpressVPN Basic renews at $8.33 a month and Proton VPN at $6.99.
Timing matters less than the banners suggest. Three campaigns were live four weeks before Black Friday on 27 November. NordVPN commits to the same deal until 9 December. The labels will change before then. The providers’ own pages give no reason to expect the prices to change.
What to do
Compare renewal prices, not percentages. Our Black Friday deals page shows both for every provider we track, and we re-check it daily.
Treat the refund window as a trial. It is 30 days at NordVPN, PIA, ExpressVPN, Surfshark and Proton VPN. CyberGhost gives 45 days, or 14 days on its monthly plan.
Decide at checkout whether to switch off auto-renewal. Switching it off keeps the term you paid for. Also check that the service does what you need. The comparison hub shows which providers document streaming, port forwarding and an audited no-logs policy.
What we changed
We added NordVPN’s published campaign window, 21 October to 9 December 2026, to two pages. It is now in the dates section of the Black Friday deals page. It is also on the NordVPN deal page, whose FAQ said the pricing page showed no end date.
We also corrected the Black Friday page. It implied that NordVPN’s “78% off” applied to the Basic plan. The pricing page labels Basic “Save 69%” and Complete “Save 78%”.
No price in our data changed. The CyberGhost, PIA and ExpressVPN deal pages already carry today’s verified figures. They also explain what each percentage measures.
